I noticed this speech just yesterday and I must say that you’ve hit the nail on the head.

Unfortunately ‘Christian values’, in practice, are scarily well-aligned to Tory values: disproportionate ownership of land, tax-evasion and an imperial mindset. C of E churchgoers are significantly more likely to be Conservative voters as well.

The highlight of Cameron’s ‘evangelical’ moments was his assertion that we live in a Christian country (who would think that an Eton-educated millionaire could be so out of touch with the general public). He also gave a fascinating description of the Bible as a ‘handy guide’ on morality (which would go a long way to explaining Tory policy!).
