Thanks for making this article Stephan and exposing REZA ASLAN, I have seen this character on Real Time with Bill Maher a few times and always found his comments to be too good to be true. After being led up the garden path too many times by such apologists I now take the time to fact check any religious related quotes, thanks to the internet its really easy nowadays as we don’t all speak arabic yet.

Also I found this youtube channel very useful as the author goes out of his way to expose people like Reza Aslan by debating various Muslim scholars that take is challenge, he uses the pseudonym Christian Prince for his protection.

I think this video is extremely nit picky. I don’t think he should be exaggerating his PhD like he is, but it’s not entirely inaccurate. I’m a senior in international studies, and I took a class in world cultures in which we studied and read about FGM. From our reading, I was also informed that FGM is not tied to ANY religion. There is no evidence binding FGM with Islam, it’s a cultural issue. Not a religious one. Again, this is just what I learned from my readings, but I don’t believe that Aslans statements are completely misguided. As an athiest, I find both it both morally and evidently wrong to claim that the mild correlation between Islam and FGM is actual evidence of Islamic ties
