In theory I agree with your reasoning in many ways but I also think that this may allow for some people to go too far. Burning effigies of grenfell and the poppy are abhorrent acts but what if the context was changed slightly and these people were burning effigies of black slaves on ships or holocaust gas chambers etc… You can see how far these things can go.

In reality as humans we are emotional beings so every action has a reaction, and something deemed offensive can escalate to a bigger problem.

The solution to this is not easy, as a society we can’t have it all our way all the time. The way I personally navigate through life is give people the respect they deserve and try to have empathy.

I’m a firefighter at North Kensington. I saw this video on a station what’s app group and my reaction was exactly the same as what I’ve just read here.

The same can’t be said of some of my colleagues. It’s understandle to me though, it’s very difficult to separate yourself from something this gross when it’s so close to home.
