It’s my best guess that an anti-Brexit high-up (or ally thereof) at Mastercard precipitated the Sargon censuring. Listen to the Christiansen interview with the Patreon rep, read between the lines a bit. Motivation is pretty clear, and there’s enough circumstantial to get you thinking at least.

I could rebut this nonsense but, honestly, what’s the point with people like this? I’ll restrict myself to just one thing, the comparison with the Y2K bug, which Stephen seemed to think was hilarious on the grounds that he’d had the same genious idea. Well Brexiters have been using the same comparison for a long time and the response is always the same: the potentially catastrophic effects of the Y2K bug were dealt with by years and years of planning and a huge amount of money being thrown at the problem. It wasn’t the case that it was a made-up problem as was implied, but that it was a very real problem that was dealt with appropriately. But being Brexiters you won’t bring yourself to admit that there could be a problem, as that would mean you’d made a mistake in how you voted. Nothing wrong with making a mistake, but Brexit is now a religion to a lot of these people, including, apparently, Stephen. If you doubt this ask yourself what could lead you to think it’s not a good idea, if you don’t have an answer then it’s not much different to a religion.

Brexit is a largely right-wing project (the others in favour of course are left wing fanatics like Corbyn), so it shouldn’t be a surprise that UKIPers like Benjamin have these views, but it’s still disappointing to hear this sort of stuff from Stephen. Honestly Stephen, why don’t you just go and join UKIP, I’m sure you’d be very welcome there.
