I also listened to the BBC Asian debate about the Saudi lady, after their ridiculously-posed question. Yes, there were no nutters who came on demanding punishment for apostasy, which was fairly comforting. And yes, the “no compulsion” came up a few times. The thing with that is if someone *only* knows that line and takes it literally, that’s fine. But if someone uses that line and is aware of the whole (confusing verse), as well as disbelievers burning in hell in the very next verse, that is either daftness or deceit. It’s very much like the single line of “If you kill one, you kill the whole of mankind”. A line only known in isolation and running with that is fine. But knowing the rest of the verse and the following verse, while using that single line is deceit (who told Nick Clegg to use it after the Lee Rigby murder?). Ten or so years of this nonsense.
Left versus Right definition, using the example of *all* migration, whether that be refugee, economic migrant or illegal.
The Left say “they are humans” (they are of course) so “all can come” no matter what. “Illegal” doesn’t exist anymore. This is considered “virtuous”.
The Right look to numbers (as well as everything else) versus available services, housing etc. And “Illegal” means illegal. This is considered “evil”.
I always get reminded of the Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin on BBC “This Week” some years ago in her video about migrant sea crossings and asking, “what would the Good Samaritan do?” Her answer was to take all. When Andrew Neil asked, “how many?” she said that doesn’t matter. Neil gently said, “But numbers matter”, and she may have realised at that point, that she cannot simply be holier than thou with this. Virtue verses reality.
As an aside, I have been blocked on Facebook by Ajmal Masroor (finally). Best for him not refer to Siraj Wahhaj as a “legend” I’d have thought. In asking about Wahhaj’s views (available on You Tube), I find myself blocked. Oh well.
