Ed Husain Says Something Silly About Evolution
Ed Husain is an author who co-founded the counter-extremist think tank Quilliam with Maajid Nawaz. Ed has been lauded for ditching the politicized Islamic ideology of his formative years. He details this journey in his book ‘The Islamist’. Needless to say, he’s done a great amount of work challenging the Islamist narrative and he is what many would consider to be a ‘progressive Muslim’.
This makes his tweeted comments about Evolution all the more disappointing:
“Darwin was born on this day in 1809. The ugliness of his theory captured by this contemporary sketch”
He didn’t take kindly to some gentle mockery and criticism from Nicky Campbell and Adam Rutherford either. Keep in mind that Dr Adam Rutherford is an actual scientist…
I wonder if Ed will be kind enough to share these ‘facts’ with the rest of us? Doubtful.
It’s the usual ignorance concerning common ancestry and the scientific definition of the word ‘theory’ on show here. Perhaps Ed studied at St Andrews?
It just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how progressive someone is in their monotheism, if they’re running faith-based ideology on their brain, they will say something deeply silly about scientific fact sooner or later.
Just as progressive attitudes should be promoted, religiously inspired ignorance should be challenged too. That’s two opposable thumbs down from me, Ed.

I hoped the first post was just an arse-headed way of referring to uncomfortable (perhaps) truths that come from evolution by natural selection, but the second assures that is not the case.
Its a bit worrying considering Quilliam is the best leadership we have in the the so-called muslim communities.
I like Quilliam. I like Ed Hussain, Usama Hasan, Nawaz…I even find myself feeling rather magnanimous towards Adam Deen, fine-tuning-first-cause-apologist as he is. But philosophy and religion are not as logically entwined as we sometimes think. Politically sensible does not = scientifically and philosophically realistic. Unfortunately.
Still, the current situation with Islam is so dire I’m inclined to go easy on this kind of mush-headed religious bollocks as long as the Muslim who spouts it is avowedly against hacking off the heads of homosexuals and executing apostates.
Correction* “philosophy and POLITICS is not as…”
Argh. Correction* “Philosophy and politics ARE not as…”
fucking cock and bollocking twats
